چکیده

With the rapid development of unconventional oil and gas, pore structure characterization shale reservoirs has attracted an increasing attention. High pressure mercury intrusion porosimetry (HPMIP) been widely used to quantitatively characterize tight shales. However, obtained from HPMIP could be significantly affected by sample particle size for analyses. This study mainly investigates influence on HPMIP, using Mississippian-aged Barnett Shale samples. The results show that porosity samples with different sizes exponentially relation size, which is caused new pores or fractures created during crushing process as well exposure blind closed pores. amount proportion retention extrusion increase decrease closely related increased ink-bottle effect in smaller size. In addition, fractal dimension positively indicates heterogeneity stronger larger Furthermore, skeletal density increases possibly differentiation mineral composition process.

Estimating permeability using median pore-throat radius obtained from mercury intrusion porosimetry

Mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) has been widely used to characterize the pore structure for various types of porous media. Several relationships between permeability and pore structure information (e.g., porosity and pore-size distribution) have been developed in the literature. This work is to introduce a new, and simpler, empirical equation to predict permeability by solely using the medi...

Confinement Correction to Mercury Intrusion Capillary Pressure of Shale Nanopores.

We optimized potential parameters in a molecular dynamics model to reproduce the experimental contact angle of a macroscopic mercury droplet on graphite. With the tuned potential, we studied the effects of pore size, geometry, and temperature on the wetting of mercury droplets confined in organic-rich shale nanopores. The contact angle of mercury in a circular pore increases exponentially as po...

Analysis of Wood Pore Characteristics with Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry and X-ray Micro- Computed Tomography

The size and distribution of wood pores greatly influence its properties like density, thermal conductivity and permeability as well as acoustical property. Different techniques were developed to measure wood pore characteristic parameters. In this paper, mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) and X-ray Micro-computed tomography (μCT) were used to characterize pore characteristics of Populus L. wo...

Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry and Image Analysis of Cement-Based Materials.

Mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) is a widely used technique for characterizing the distribution of pore sizes in cement-based materials. It is a simple and quick indirect technique, but it has limitations when applied to materials that have irregular pore geometry. The relationship between MIP results and the actual pore distribution and connectivity can be better understood with the use of ...

Demineralized dentin 3D porosity and pore size distribution using mercury porosimetry.

OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to assess demineralized dentin porosity and quantify the different porous features distribution within the material using mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) technique. We compared hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) drying and lyophilization (LYO) (freeze-drying) in sample preparation. METHODS Fifty-six dentin discs were assigned into three groups. The co...
